EM recently ran a massive rebuild for a client where the goal was to move 300k+ users from one eco-system to a headless site in 10 days (yes, all of it in 10 days). We'll get into the details, the learnings, the impact later (stay tuned!) – but one of my takeaways refining: how does something like that happen while trying to balance a family?
Being a recently single parent, my village has changed some & I've come to rely on them significantly more. When we got word of the project, the timeline (with a very hard deadline), my first thought was: if we're going to do this, I'm going to need extra help with my kids.
Luckily, I live close to my ever so patient parents who gladly take my kids at the drop of a hat. We're SO SO lucky to have them, and for them to be in a position to help out!
Each project that EM takes on, I look at the impact that it'll have on the business and it's customers, the opportunity of it, the tech and if we can provide a good solution. If it's a quick turn around, I also weigh the timeline, scope and impact it'll have on my personal life.
This one felt like the right project to take on, with the right team members internally and externally as well as it aligned with a chance for my kiddos to hang with their grandparents.
Not every project has such a tight timeline and large scope, but building out the systems to allow projects like this is important to do as a business owner so that you can know when to say "YESSSSSS!" or "No, thanks." is so so important.
